Ford Transit Connect 1.8 TDCi 2005 - Does not crank, start with a push - FIXED #

Year of Manufacture: 2005
Engine Size and Code: 18 tdci

Hi everyone this van has just come and pushed in the workshop it does’t crank but runs if pushed I had a quick scan and got this fault in the hybrid electronic cluster 1359 ignition run accessory circuit fail and 1613 rear wiper switch circuit short to battery as it was so late I had a quick look at the fuses behind the battery and they are good also the battery seems good. Has anybody dealt with this before to give some pointers? Thanks

Have you checked ignition switch inputs/output? Any voltage at the exciter wire @ starter motor solenoid?
Have you volt dropped the starter main live and engine to battery earth lead?

Hi tony thanks for your reply I have checked the ignition switch and it works ok but the starter does’t get the signal does the starting signal go through the cluster? The cluster makes noises when the ignition is on I think it’s faulty I was able to start it by providing a signal to the starter and it runs well

Do these Transit connects have a fusilbe link on the battery earth strap like some of the full fat Transits?
And you are only getting a weak earth through accessories on the battery!!
Only a thought because I had one once when the driver of the vehicle tried to start his van in gear and blew the fusible link and was only left with a poor earth through his Amber flashing beacon lights

Easy test, just put an earth jumper cable on battery earth and connect to body earth

These have a crank/starter relay in the engine bay fuse box.I would check the circuits here.

As Andrew says, see what's happening at the relay and that will tell you which direction to look.

Hi

AD shows starter relay controlled by engine ECU.
I have had Engine wiring loom faults on these

Agree withe Andrew, Starter relay would be the ideal place to start, test inputs / out puts, effectively splits system into 4 area's to narrow down you search

Thanks everyone I have tried on here for infermation regarding the starter relay but it will not accept my log in details does anyone know which is the relay? And where it is? Thanks

Thanks tony an Dave your pictures are very informative I don’t normally do electrics but as this was a good customer I decided to take a look after a lot of running around I eventually found a corodated and broken wire next to the battery that goes to the starter solenoid I repaired it charged the battery up and it’s now back to normal. Thanks again for all your help
