Kia Sorrento 2.5 CRDi 2008 - Non start, no codes #

Posted by Kevin Marriot on November 20, 2017, 7:39 pm

Year of Manufacture *: 2008
Engine Size and Code *: 2.5 CRDI

VEHICLE BROKEN DOWN AND RAC RECOVERED, NO FAULT CODES, ENGINE CRANKS OK GOOD CRANKING SPEED AND GOOD FUEL PRESSURE (LIVE DATA) CRANK AND CAM SIGNAL OK, ENGINE WILL START IF A SQUIB OF EASY START IS USED BUT WILL NOT RUN ON ITS OWN FUEL. SOMETIMES FIRES ON FOR A SECOND THEN CUTS OUT,ON TESTING INJECTOR PULSE THERE IS EITHER NONE OR THERE IS FOR A SECOND AS IT FIRES UP THEN THE PULSE IS GONE. IVE USED CUSTOMERS OTHER IGN KEY BUT NO DIFFERENCE

Unusual, as it sounds like an immobiliser issue which would normally log fault codes. What is the key warning lamp on the dash doing?
Keys are common for failing, one stops working, then the other!
The ecu is in the passenger footwell. Lift the carpet up and check for water ingress (blocked sunroof drains) or wiring loom rubbed against ecu bracket.
I have come across shorted injectors but they again would log a code.

What are you using to interrogate this? Sounds bizarre but if it's a Delphi Autocom unit go in as a Hyundai H100 van with 2.5 diesel engine

hi tony, im using a snapon verus, the key immobilizer symbol goes out as it should scan tool tells me immobilizer is off, ive checked for a shorted injector and gave the wiring and ecu a good look over, the vehicle broke down while being driven

It's difficult to suggest a direction without anything to go on. You're saying fuel pressure is good? What is it?
What about the fuel supply what vacuum is the pump pulling through the fuel filter?

Hi
i have good fuel flow/vacuum & pressure to injectors. i have no electrical pulse to them though. i have done a resistance test on the injectors and all are ok (same as another kia i tested) so no shorted injectors. i have also done a cam crank test and compared it with another kia and they are the same so no prob with timing chain

I most likely missed the bit about no pulse due to capitals (SHOUTING). As Tony has said no real facts to go on Good tells us nothing.
You have not even posted what you are reading the codes and non posted data with.
Post more data.

Kev.

sorry about the CAPITALS, if you read the second post i do say im using a snap-on verus scanner, ive not posted a scope image of cam crank etc because they are exactly the same as another kia i have compared it to that has no faults. ECU sent away for testing.

hi tony
thanks for the reply, i have been lucky enough to get my hands on another kia same year etc. side by side all scope patterns are the same so are pressure and vacuum. ive tested all inputs and outputs both at ECU and sensors the only thing that's missing is an injector pulse so i have sent the ECU away for testing.

Hi all, think it might be an idea to check on scope for fuel pressure voltage rise on fuel pressure switch, not from live data got caught out once with scan tool showing desired pressure instead of actual pressure it was a software issue on tool.

Hi

if this has a return pipe leak off union on the fuel rail pull the pipe off it, if it leaks diesel out of it when you crank the fuel rail pressure relief valve is leaking off fuel pressure & would account for losing injector pulse,
have had this a few times on these, it is available separate from the rail if it's bosch

regards Steve

Hi Kevin, just wondered if the Ecu fixed this?
Or did you find a fault with the fuel system?
