VAG Emissions Recall / Scandal #

Year of Manufacture *: 2013
Engine Size and Code *: 1.6 CR TDI

Hi All,

We have just been informed that our VW 1.6 TDI Caddy is due for it's emissions recall.

I believe it's air diffuser mesh/grille around MAF and software update.

My question is to anyone that has actually had this done or perfomed it yet, if there were any noticeable changes in performance, engine tone or economy.

Should I or Not is the question.

Hi
No personal experience but to an HGV mechanic I have known for a long time Told me his wife's Golf had been been updated and he reported no noticeable change in performance and slight improvement in economy, I guess this would have been the 2.0 engine.

A couple of other customers have had it done but have not commented on any noticeable change.

Will be interested what others say.

Unless you know the full history of your Car I would leave it alone and just ignore the recall.

even if you have had the car from new I still would leave it alone.

The whole sorry story is just nothing more than total bullshit, this is just a PR stunt now. If VAG could make there engines comply with EURO 5 emissions levels with regards to Nox levels , with just a software tweak and £1.00 plastic tube then why cheat in the first place ?????

The problem was so difficult , they cheated and were prepared to gamble there company name and about 6 billion euros in share price crash and upcoming fines. what do you honestly think.

Leave it alone, there is no legal requirement to have this done.
There are no repercussions if you don't have it done.
Total waste of time.

As above, leave it alone - If it ain't broke don't fix it.

We've seen a few EGR valves flagging after customers have had the update done, but as we replace more EGR valves than cabin filters at the moment it would be difficult to advise whether this is due to the software being a bit keener on EGR diagnosis than previous software versions.

Each vehicle that's flagged an EGR fault including one which flagged as he drove it away from the dealer following the NOx update, have had a "tough shit, nothing to do with the update" response from the dealers.

Best left alone we reckon, the whole sorry affair is bullshit.

I am guessing that the EGR gets operated more aggressively after the fix, so a weak one (Which they all are anyway) is more likely to fail shortly after the fix is done.

It is of course no consolation to know that it was already on its way out anyway and owners will not believe it unless they are warned in advance (And even then....) :/

I have been advising people Not, I cant think of any possible advantage of having it done and plenty of possibilities for disadvantages.
