Year of Manufacture *: 2006 Engine Size and Code *: 1.9DTH ( Optional ) Scanner Used: Autocom ( Optional) Fault Codes: P1909
This car presented itself about 2 weeks ago with customer (Father in law) complaining about lack of power, MIL lamp illuminated & going into limp home. After initial checks P1909 was displayed (DPF blocked) scan tool showed 4.8V on WOT , connected scope to DPF pressure sensor which confirmed voltage correct. Mytivac showed 18psi back pressure to the DPF sensor & with soot content at 100% i reluctantly tried to force the regen but not possible. With time against me i opted for a new DPF, but was struggling to get a brand i new & trusted on this one, ECP supplied what i could get a hold off (can't remember the brand). New DPF fitted, WOT voltage showing around 0.8-0.9V on WOT, result or so i thought! Car back in today with same fault code & in limp mode. Live data displayed soot density @ 20%, DPF pressure @ 2000RPM showing 18-22KPA with 1V signal , back pressure showing 3.5-4psi WOT around 12-13 PSI WOT confirmed on Pico @ 3.3 Volts .I checked pressure senior with mytivac which appears to be operating smoothly & reaction time was flawless. The car has barely done 400 miles since DPF replacement so I'm a bit confused as to why this fault has come back so fast & with voltages that don't match up with a new sensor.
Add : I did adapt the ecu to the new dpf The car was in previously when it had an Egr valve replacement about 2 months ago as the unit was sticking (replaced with pieburg unit)
My head is saying this is a cheap sh*t Dpf thats causing the issue due to the high pressure/volts present Has anyone had any similar problems (sorry i haven't had to to search previous posts) My sanity in need of help
We inherited a Ford Galaxy from another garage that had an ECP half size lightweight DPF fitted amongst other things, with exactly this scenario. We did all the normal tests and advised the customer that in our opinion only a genuine DPF would cure the fault, so we fitted a Ford recon unit. This is a taxi, and its been fine since, but was previously going into limp with eml on every 30-50 miles. The Ford recon unit wasn't much different in price to the ECP unit. Andy
Fitted an aftermarket dpf, good source on a ford kuga 2 weeks later car back we have a dpf cleaning company just up the road so we asked them to pressure test dpf, blocked put the camera in both ends and it looked clean it had melted in the middle.thanks terry
HI, thanks for the feedback, generally i go with genuine units but with the lack of genuine parts being hard to get hold off i had to try & get the best quality brand i could get a hold off . I was doubting my diagnostic procedures because of the very low mileage this unit had done. We as engineers trust that manufacturers will supply a unit fit for purpose, obviously they don't in this country, i just wonder how they would get on selling this crap in the USA?
I had a client recently who purchased a 2006 93 which was smoking intermittently. To make a long story short someone had removed the dpf internals but no remap.
I fitted a used dpf from a crashed Zafira (same engine) and it's been perfect since. A bit of cutting and welding involved but I would rather use genuine used than non genuine new.jim power
