Hi all, we have a diesel V10 Touareg in for repairs to an engine diesel leak and would appreciate some advice or even better to speak with a technician who is familiar with this V10 engine. The same engine is also used to power the 5.0 TDI VW Phaeton.
The vehicle still idles and revs on all cylinders but has been recovered due to the vast amount of diesel leaking into the "vee" of the engine. When we first started it diesel was immediately spraying onto the underside of the rear of the bonnet near the bulkhead so we thought the leak was really major. It turned out that diesel had settled in the vee and was being pumped upwards by the pulley belt connecting the PAS and A/C pumps.
If we shringe out the diesel from around the pulley we can run the engine for a short time before enough fuel appears in the vee and once again starts being pumped upwards. We now believe the leak isn't as bad as first thought but the problem is we can't see where it's coming from without starting to strip parts off.
The little bit of info available on the net suggests that almost any part replacement involves removing the engine including the gearbox and suspension assembly. We would prefer not to just go ahead and do this only to find something simple cuasing the leak that could have been remedied in situ.
We believe the cam driven fuel pumps at the back of the engine are known to fail and leak but can't see how diesel could fill the vee so quickly and why the fuel wouldn't just leak down the back of the engine.
Any help or technical info would be greatly appreciated or phone call.
