Year of Manufacture *: 2008 Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 N47 ( Optional ) Scanner Used: Mulriscan/launch ( Optional) Fault Codes: 4A74, 4A79
Car was brought in as non-runner.
DPF completely blocked, about 20 fault codes (Mostly red herrings generated by the mechanical problems)
Amongst other things both DPF and one of the glow plugs was faulted.
DPF replaced (That was fun!), engine serviced and glow plugs replaced (That was fun too!)
Had a bad battery too.
All is now running fine and starts on the button. But....!
I am still getting two fault codes coming back like a bad penny!
4A74,and 4A79. according to the scan tool this relates to "Glow plug controller comms"
Now, the important question is, will these faults prevent DPF regenerations form occurring? ( IE, does this have to be resolved NOW or can the owner leave it for a month or two, the bill is already quite a big one)
And, what is likely to be the problem and how do I resolve it?
I have tried googling the issue and while I have come across many people with similar issues I have not found any resolutions.
Whilst no definitive answer, As far as BMWs are concerned I have always found that 'some' glow plugs need to work for regen to be successful, Your fault codes relate to communication between the glow plug controller and the dme. Glow controller is a common fail and only £85 from BMW.
