Year of Manufacture *: 2011 Engine Size and Code *: 1.6 9hp ( Optional ) Scanner Used: Bosch KTS ( Optional) Fault Codes: P0493 Cooling fan speed malfunction
Hi
This car has an intermittent fault that logs a P0493 Cooling fan speed malfunction fault code and the car goes into limp mode. Cycle the key and the warning light goes out and the car is ok again sometimes for a day or sometimes it reoccurs within an hour or so. The fault occurs when driving in traffic, etc. We cannot replicate the fault in the workshop. We have replaced the fan module and checked the power and ground supplies to the module which seem ok. Fan is free and if you fast idle the car the fan comes on and goes off again. You can also actuate the fan at stage 1 and stage 2 speeds with the KTS and no fault is logged. Does anyone no if there is maybe a software update for this fault or no of anything else I should check for as I'm running out of ideas? Is there maybe some kind of an adaption that needs to be done when replacing the module? This morning I'm going to check wiring from the module to the ecu (bumper off again), struggled to get the tamper screws out the ecu last time it was in to do this so just checked the fan was working ok after replacing the module. So I'll give them another go this morning. Also what I forgot to say was when the car came in to start with back in December it had 2 fault codes. The fan fault as above and also a P1445 Particulate filter ash level filter overloaded. The fan fault would clear from the memory but the DPF fault wouldn't. Live data showed that the contamination level of the DPF was at 100%. The DPF was replaced with a genuine filter and an adaption carried out to tell the car a new one was fitted. All codes then cleared.
