Citroen Berlingo 1.6 HDi DV6 2012 - Starting issues - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2012
Engine Size and Code *: Dv6

I am having starting issues following cam belt failure and engine rebuild. Compressions are 20 bar on 3 cylinders but only 14 bar on one. Having removed the head to check the valves all seems ok with no leaks from valve seats. Protrusion visually looks ok. Would this cause a non-start as ECU doesn't see acceptable ratio on a single cylinder?Any data on expected cylinder pressure would be great.

It did break the follower on that cylinder and the cam lobe looks like it took a bit of impact,maybe it has spun the lobe.Not that easy to check I suppose.

Agreed.

I have yet to see one of these HDI camshafts survive a belt failure - we immediately price this into our initial estimate when these things darken our door.

I suppose on the old engines it used to smash the cast steel cam shafts into 3 or 4 pieces and smash the caps.I didn't really consider the impact on the later type camshaft.I can't see any sever damage to the top of the Pistons so don't think there is damage to the piston ring grooves.What sort of psi/bar should I be seeing?.Also if injection system see's a low cylinder pressure would it shut down the injectors?

if lobes knocked round valve timing will be out
which will not help starting and it wont achieve correct compression !!!

Maybe a bit late to suggest now, but a cyl leakage test would have checked the integrity of the valves and rings seating's, I would have thought the lobe positions on TDC on the affected cyl would be obvious to the naked eye to effect the compression that much. Doubt that ECU can see compression issues until engines running which should show fuel per cyl issues.

Hello Mark,The cam does look ok but I dont have another one to check it against,so I cant be sure it is ok.I wondered if ecu can see a low compression on cranking from the load on the starter and as it can't adjust the fuelling to correct it,shuts down injection system.Where the old pressure lift injectors would just inject the fuel when required.Having removed the head it does look like fuel has been getting into the cylinder,so could be a cam issue.

The camshaft had been damaged when the belt failed. Lobes are pressed/freeze fit on the shaft.
