Vauxhall Astra 1.7 Y17DT 2001 - Code P0251 Spill valve malfunction - Fixed #

Engine Size and Code *: 1700 Y17DT
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Vaux-Com
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0251

Hi all
Got an Astra van in at the moment, cuts out fault codes for P0251 spill valve malfunction[injection pump]. Cuts out mainly when warm. Looked in archieves mainly fault for fuel pump control unit. Ive had a couple of these with the main engine ecu at fault, the way I found them I had a donor car in at the time. When the fault occurs there's no switched earth from the engine ecu to the spill valve relay. Tested to confirm, my question is have I got an engine ecu fault or is the ecu switching the earth off as a result from a faulty pump ecu? Does anybody know how to test to confirm?

Will be the EDU and not the engine control unit on the top of the engine.

Thanks for the reply, if the engine ecu spots a problem with the EDU will it shut down the relay earth?

Whip of the EDU and then it,s back plate and check for dry joints.

15 minute,s work, tops.

Kev is right (as per usual). This happened to my van about 6 months with the same fault code. A very nice man came out and whipped off the EDU and soldered a few dry joints. Common fault apparently.

Hi all

Thanks for all your posts, took off the edu unit looked like it had been soldered before so re-soldered the joints again but still no good. In the end I put a new edu unit on from actronics, job sorted thanks again.
