Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 DTH 2009 - Misfire on cylinder 1, code P0201 - Unresolved #

( Optional ) Scanner Used: dec
( Optional) Fault Codes: p0201

have this corsa with the fiat engine with a misfire in cylinder 1 is there a easy way to test the injector, what voltage should I expect at the injector as usual autodata does not have the wiring diagram for this car I don't normally do diesel but I can test operate petrol injectors separate from the car or on the car ray

yes I have seen that setting on my pico but will you get a reading if the injector is open cicuit therefore there's no load ? ray

No you won't see anything, have you checked the injector resistance, should be 0.3 to 0.7 ohms accross the terminals?

Also check each pin to the body of injector that there is no short there.

Hi ray,
Also as chris said and I would do a leakoff test.
If one is leaking off a lot more then ther offers then bingo!
If you dont have a leakoff tester then unclip leak off pipes and crank just to see if you can see one leaking more then others.

A leak off?? are you sure that's the right process here?

Never seen P0201 flagged before due to internal leak?

A relative compression would be a good start, and as Chris says, injector resistance on the offending Cylinder, use the scope for voltage and current, You could always swap injectors over or use jump wires to check injector and wiring... And as its a Corsa D, make sure the ECU is not swimming had this last month after garage fitted an injector...

Sorry didn't read post correctly. I was just given another way to test injectors.
Yes compression test would be best way to go.
Also wouldn't it log injector code if resistance was out?

Ray, What code and description have you got?

P0201 is not a misfire code.

Shane,

As you can see it has flagged an injector circuit code if Ray has got his code correct. Or was it a P301 misfire code?

TBH and I can tell some people are going to spit their dummies out here, I think Ray needs to go and read up on Modern CRD theory of operation and testing methods. Maybe book on one of Marks Bosch courses or Tech topics.

It is always important to know what you are testing, why you are testing it and what results to expect before asking the question "How do I test it."

I hope this is taken as constructive criticism as intended and not just a dig.

To be fair to Ray, he did say he doesn't do much with diesels, and he was asking how to test it.
I think he was asking the right questions.

You are right Chris, Ray did say that he doesn't do much with diesels. & there is no harm in asking after all.

The thing is that Diesels represent a significant percentage of our current work load & as such it makes sense to prepare to tackle them adequately.

One of the greatest skills that a technician should possess, is the ability (and willingness) to recognise & accept when there is a gap in his or her understanding & then take steps to address those gaps!

My initial thoughts when I read Ray's first post were....

In the absence of any previous knowledge of this system, how can I test these injectors & what voltage & amperage should I expect to see?

Perhaps I could study the voltage & current signatures from each of the four injectors & maybe I can spot an "odd one out" & in doing so, I might gain some understanding about how they operate.

This method has served me well & I often use it when I presented with an unfamiliar system.

For example, how often are we presented with an ABS system fault & we wonder about how best to test a wheel speed sensor. Is it a magnetoresistive, inductive or some other form of active type sensor? In the same way that Ray has questions, so do I.

It isn't very often that we won't have three other good examples available for our educational & research needs.

With an inquisitive mind & an understanding of oscilloscope use, it is possible to learn an enormous amount about the mysteries of modern electronically controlled systems.

OK I did not get to involved with diesels as it means a whole load of more equipment and training. back to the car in the end I took out two injectors and swooped them and the fault remained the same and if I want to know if a injector is working I use a stethoscope and listen and the injector 1 is not working I did all this on sat and decided to leave it till Monday and do some research. Started the car Monday morning and running perfect for a short while and misfire came back. all injectors ohms out at 1.5 ohms. I suspect ecu rang dealer for the price at £695 + vat I then asked do you sell many of these and was told 3 so far this month. do you know anyone who tests and repair these. Ray

Ray, get a new one, this will bite you in the arse...

Assuming you have drop tested the wiring??

for the new ECU you will need to SPS and program the new unit to the vehicle... and if you are using vaux-com there is one config that is not listed, which will leave the light on, you will need tech 2 to finish the config, unless you got something else that's able to complete the process..

I have tech 2 but car has now gone back to the garage as the owner of the car is thinking about this as they have had fitted new egr, turbo, throttle pedal as the last one melted without doubt these fiat engines are rubbish ray
