Vauxhall Astra 1.3 CDTi Z13DTH 2009 - Misfire, code P0201 (waveform) - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2009
Engine Size and Code *: 1.3 Z13DTH

I am new to using a scope so I am hoping for some guidance on interpretting these waveforms from someone with more knowledge of these things.

This car has a regular misfire and drops onto 3 cylinders a few minutes after starting from cold with fault code: P0201 Injector 1 voltage low.

This first trace is when there is no fault present.

Channel A: Injector Supply
Channel B: Injector Control Circuit
Channel C: Injector Current

This trace is the moment when the vehicle misfires.

It would appear to me that when the fault happens and the PCM grounds the injector there is an initial spike to around 25V on the injector supply which then immidiately drops to 0V

From my limited knowledge I am thinking that there is a internal fault with the PCM related to the capacitor for Injector 1. (Is there an individual capacitor for each injector?)

I would be gratefull for any help or guidance on making sense of these waveforms.

Would be grateful for any suggestions on this one.

Any help on whether I am thinking along the right lines or if I have got it completely wrong

Are there are any other test that would be recommended.

In my experience, capacitor voltage problems are usually down to a faulty injector rather than pcm.

Thanks for your reply.

Is there any way confirm Injector at fault and not pcm without removing to have it tested?

Injector solenoid resistance tests ok but I know that wont confirm its ok when put under load.

These injecters normal come out easy, so you could swap a couple about, not the ideal way but !

Thanks for reply.

I will probably swap over to confirm as suggested.

As I am new to scopes I wasn't sure whether I was missing or not fully understanding something from the waveform.

SP Diagnostics used for code read, left out of first post in error.

I spoke to the garage that I was doing this job for today and a contact they have at Vauxhall told them that these PCM's have problems with bad soldered joints.

They decided to open it up to have a look and found what they think are three bad joints (one of them coated in green corrosion).

They are going to send PCM for Repair/Test.

Will update when PCM is refitted.

Managed to get the soldered joints repaired on the PCM and vehicle is now running fine.
