Citroen C5 2.0 HDi RHR 2005 - Pump in tank and hand primer? #
Posted by Neil Crunkhorn on August 5, 2013, 11:46 pm
Year of Manufacture *: 2005 Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 hdi rhr
Had the above vehicle towed into me, Has anyone seen a hdi engine with pump in the tank as well as a hand primer?. The problem is, when i got it bled up and running, the primer blew up like a rugby ball. What I can't get my head round is that the customer has had this car over 2 years and never had a problem until now. Is there a sensor that controls the low pressure pump? I spoke to Citroen dealer and they said that engine should only have primer, tried bypassing pump in tank, got it running Friday, left over weekend then tried it today. It's starting first turn of the key, road testing all good until about 2 miles down the road and then died, fuel filter was empty of diesel, there are no faults in Ecu. Any help would be most appreciated, thanks.

Hi Neil. If the primer is blowing up like a rugby ball then it sounds to me like you have a blockage/restriction after it (ie. blocked filter, return line back to the tank etc). What fuel system is it running?

I believe if its the siemens system you should have a primer and no in tank pump and no primer with in tank pump on bosch system.
Never heard of both pump and primer i was under the belief it would burst the primer. Hmmmm food for though Brad.
