Ford Focus 1.6 2006 - Down on power, code P0299 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 06
Engine Size and Code *: 1.6
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solus pro
( Optional) Fault Codes: p0299

car is down on power code is p0299 the spindle on the turbo is slightly worn but i had a exact model in and compared the data the only differnce between the two are
cooling air bypass valve firt learnt 0.4 faulty vehicle 49.3
cooling air bypass valve position 0.8 faulty 98.6
particulate filter 0.2 faulty vehicle 12.0
secondary throttle position duty cycle 0.8 faulty vehicle 98.6 i dont know if any of this is the cause not that clued up on diesels is there any thing else i should look for on the data thanks paul

What vacuum have you got at the boost solenoid? (Should be around 25" if I remember correctly).
It's at the rear of the engine underneath the car (just around/above the offside driveshaft bearing).
Check vacuum in, and good vacuum at the turbo. The pipes are prone to going soft with oil leaks, and bleed off the vacuum.
Use a mityvac (or suitable vacuum pump) to check the lever on the turbo moves smoothly, and to the full extent of it's travel. Not unusual for shopping trolleys to never go the full extent, eventually carboning up.

And of course, check the boost pipes and intercooler aren't leaking. Oh, and the pipes are on the boost solenoid correctly. One is vac in, one is vac out, the other is vacuum to atmosphere
with key off.

thanks tony for your help it has got a new intercooler pipe fitted a few months ago, which was split on the welded bracket which is supposed to be a common fault, I will check vacuum pipes etc tomorrow and report back

the vucuum pipe from the pump/accumalator is pulling 25'on the mitivac, the pipe to the waste gate is pulling 15', and the pipe to atmosphere is about 10' on the valve, there is no oil damage its very dry on back of engine all pipes look good the waste gate is fully open on idle which i dont think is right and fully closed when engine switched off the waste gate lever moves freely when operated with mitivac i feel it ould be a faulty valve ?

Hi

Replaced turbo, oil pipe cleaned out pick up etc, car back to normal there was a lot of play in spindle once turbo was off on the bench, thanks for help
