Jaguar X Type 2.0 2005 - Code P0500 vehicle speed sensor #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 2 ltr
( Optional ) Scanner Used: ACR4 G2
( Optional) Fault Codes: PO500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor

Evening All,

I would be grateful for some help on this problem. This vehicle will drive normally and at any given time the glow plug warning light will flash and it will drop into limp mode. On re-starting the vehicle, it will drive normally until the next episode. The fault code stored is as given and will clear down immediately. The ABS warning light is not illuminated and the speedo works OK.

Can someone please indicate where the VSS is located. My Autodata is sadly lacking this info.

Hi Kev,

Thanks for that. Sadly I do not have IDS and I don't know of one in my area. This car has been around 2 other garages and they obtained the same fault code. I have no idea what gear they have.

What I would like to do is to scan and read the ABS system but cannot find any info anywhere on what system it has. If anyone knows what system this has, it would be a great help.

Even more reason for a global read with IDS and get ALL the correct codes.

Can't disagree with that Kev. However, I would like to help him as much as I can before he palms the vehicle off to the main dealer. If I can get live data from the wheel sensors then that might show something. I therefore would be grateful if anyone can advise what ABS system this thing has assuming it does not have a separate VSS.

Or wouldn't someone near to you with Autologic Jaguar offer any help.

I'm sure a phone call to Autologic asking if anyone uses Jaguar software local to you wouldn't be a problem.

Hi Pete

On the engine wiring diagram i can't see any speed sensor.

On the abs pins jb45-24 and 40 which are can wires, it says speed info.

It may be worth looking for cracked reluctor rings [normally gives other sytoms.] and tyres

Greetings,

Further delving on this has brought to my attention that a programme called "Wheeler Dealers" presented by Mike Weaver had something similar to an X Type Jag. This turned out to be an incorrect fault code for what was thought to be the Throttle Position Sensor. I have e-mailed Mike to see if any light can be thrown on this. I have never seen the programme, but it may well be that someone out there in cyberspace has.

Which is exactly why i suggested getting it on IDS or as others have said AL, correct codes, all codes and from all systems.

Thanks Kev,

Yes, I do understand where you are coming from. Customer, has recently purchased this vehicle and its still under warranty and wanted some insight into what the problem was to see if it was worth going back to the vendor (they have already had a falling out over another issue). I did a quick code read as a favour whilst attending his daughters car. My idea as a favour only extends certain lengths and I know that this vehicle will return back to the garage if I cant get to the bottom of it.

This vehicle has been returned back to the vendor. More problems appeared with rear suspension and steering and customer has got his money back.

Zombie thread I know and vehicle off your toes, but I have IDS other dealer kit and 4 AL packages and as you know I'm just down the road from you... may help you in the future

Hi Rob,

Thanks for that. Nearly popped in last week as I swept majestically past your garage. Sadly I was running a bit late for another appointment, but another time.....

Coincidently I came across that X Type about 3 weeks ago. It was looking very forlorn on a dealers forecourt and noticed it whilst attending another vehicle. It was apparently going to be moved onto another dealer in Scunny. I asked to have a look at it and waved my new Autocom at it and in addition to the VSS code, it had about half a dozen other CANBUS Comms codes. Needless to say I walked away from it. CANBUS is Black Magic to me....
