VW Transporter 2.5 TDi T5 2005 - Water in oil #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005 transporter
Engine Size and Code *: 2.5 tdi axe engine code

problen with oil getting into coolant system
first time van was in the oil was black in the coolant system, replaced oil cooler and gaskets and flushed out system.two months later back to the same problem only oil was mixed with water. replaced water pump and flushed out system. after about 10 miles driving oil in water and no oil showing on dip stick. removed head and got pressured tested. tested ok. can a head gasked cause tat much oil get into coolant system so quick
any ideas

Hi Anthony
I would of thought you would have seen problem on old head gasket if it's that bad.

Hello Anthony,
Not an expert on this vehicle but, is oil cooler fitted ? if so is it in tandem with radiator ? ( all in one unit ) Sorry re-read oil cooler at oil filter housing

Hello Anthony, if it has oil in the coolant & not water in the oil it has to be coming from a pressurised oil way. If it's the head gasket, check around the oil way to the head. Oil cooler's are prone as I'm sure you're aware, water pump will only leak coolant into sump. Other places to check would be cracked head, block or water cooled turbo if it has one. Hope this is of some help, Alan.

hi alan

The head gasket is a steel gasket very hard to see anything on it. head pressure tested ok.i filled the cylinder walls with water and put air through the oil gallerys no sign of any bubbles in water. may check out the turbo and see is it water cooled. if not i may hope its only the gasket

Hi Anthony,

We had the same issues with a VAG 2.0 TDi, first changed the filter head water to oil cooler, few hundred miles and oil in header tank again, then head gasket few hundred miles still same, although I had the head pressure tested when the head gasket was done I put another head on it and that cured it. Theory being when head is sent for pressure testing they dont put 110c coolant through it so sometimes the crack doesn't show up when cold?
