Vauxhall Corsa Combo Z13DTJ 2006 - Lack of power, code P0243 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 56 plate
Engine Size and Code *: z13dtj
( Optional) Fault Codes: p0243

Hi

This is my brothers van came in lack of power P0243 came up and also brake lights not working replace bulbs and also engine oil quality light on so flushed and changed oil and filter road test and only p0243 comes back on live data the boost sits at 102kpa and airflow is at 12kg/h when revved up boost goes down to 99kpa and air flow around 115kg/h ive compared this to a mates same van and boost goes a lot higher im thinking the turbo has gone there is a lot of oil in the turbo pipe work and with the boost pipe of the turbo off and revving it up can not feel a real lot of pressure any help or thoughts

Have you checked wastegate action possible stuck open sticking is common but usually stick shut and give overboost code Turbo boost regulates wastegate by pressure HTH Kevin

What is the actuator arm doing when you start the vehicle.

Can you control it yourself?

If the actuator arm moves freely when you control it then what vacuum reading have you got at the vac pipe that controls it with the engine idling?

Not to sure how the turbo wastegate is controlled but if you take control does the boost pressrue then increase on live data (map sesnor).

Just thinking if its a possible map senosr error rather than turbo.

I think by the sounds of Kevins post the boost control comes straight off the compressor housing and connects to the actuator. Also the wiring diagram doesn't show any turbo control solenoids.

The turbo wastegate is controlled by turbo pressure a closed loop self regulating system.
If you are controlling the wastegate by vacuum I would assume its in an open position and you are closing it with vacuum applied. The boost pressure sensor on the inlet manifold monitors over and under boost.Check wastegate washer burnt or missing, waste gate acuator rod bracket or mounting bent or broken,or wastegate preload retun to closed not wokring.
I stand to be corrected but thats how I see it.

OK fair enough,

So is this not a VVT type as i've only ever seen these with a vac control system. Seen a few early turbo's where the pressrue within the turbine housing blows open the poppet wastegate type valve.

Thinking about it, i'm sure we had one in where the wastegate had seized solid with no go at all. Felt more like a blocked exhaust though but it wasn't.

I too am confused now.

Autodata doesnt list the Z13DTJ wiring diagram but it does list Z13DT. (I maybe wrongly assuming that they are similar)

Autodata does not list a boost pressure control solenoid for a 2006 Z13DT

TIS does list a boost pressure control solenoid, for the same year Z13DT?

It looks like autodata may have got it wrong?

I sespect the boost pressure is controled via the ECU.

Can you confirm paul?

there is a vacuum pipe from the pump which goes to a solenoid bolted next to rad and then onto wastegate of turbo apply vacuum to the pipe a i can make the wastegate lever in and out there is also a map sensor on the inlet manifold and according to kts is the high pressure sensor i have replaced sensor and bypassed the vacuum solenoid it made no differnce as i said with the outlet pipe of the turbo disconnected and revving it up there is not a lot of pressure and some oil risidue

Think this is the Fiat engine. We had one a while ago, new turbo only about £130 from memory genuine from Vauxhall.

yes on further inspection of the turbo shaft there is play in it not alot but enough to loose pressure. the turbo is £375 from vauxhall because this one has a dpf thanks for your help

How did you operate wastegate with mitivac Paul I,m sure this wastegate operates with pressure from thr inlet manifold tract ??????

Hi,
I had one of these (not dpf though) and as Kevin says the wastegate is operated by pressure from the inlet.
I verified my problem by teeing in a boost gauge to the pipe that goes to the wastegate from the inlet tract. Taped it to the windscreen and watched pressure on gauge while driving.
I managed to free off sticking rod and its been fine since.

this is my brothers van so its back again fitted a recon turbo and removed DPF cleaned it out cleared codes and carried out regen,still lack of power and code p0243 comes back, kts is saying the boost solenoid is at the front of engine to the right and on another system its saying it uses the map sensor tried new map sensor and wiring ok showing 1.8volts on live data, still the same, any one point me in the direction im thinking ecu ?

First things first:

1) have you confirmed the serviceability of the MAP sensor independently?

2) have you made sure the exhaust is clear?

3) have you made sure the inlet track is clear?

4) have you made sure any swirl flaps are operating correctly?

5) Have you checked the valve timing and lift (including worn keyways)?

6) What vacuum reading have you got at the control valve?

7) Does it change (on the output side)when you run an actuator test?

8) Have you smoke tested the whole intake track post turbo?

9) Are the injectors serviceable?

10) Is the turbo from a good source?

Just to put an add to on what Mark has said to test and not rereading all the posts so far. Have you checked the MAF sensor. An easy test with a scope. Sorry if you have already tested this.

Check ALL fuses in engine bay fuse box. Hint - there is a little black cover hiding some more fuses within the fuse box.

just a quick up date my brother has the van back now but over the weekend he blanked off the vacuum pipe from the waste gate which he read on the net and the van goes like a train so eliminates timing and exhaust issues so it must be wastegate control i presume

Paul, i would check the live data with engine off key on and look to see what the Map sensor is doing, i had the same problem on my wifes car and the Map was reading high with engine off, you will need to compare it against the barometric pressure, quite a common fault on this model if you do a bit of googling. the only trouble with googling is sifting through a million pages of crap to get to the golden nugget

as Mark says in his post " confirm the control side of things"

I don't post very often on this site , because you can normally find the answer in the archives

thanks kev its coming back in next week the turbo was changed because it was smoking the spindle was very worn which we presumed low boost

ok van back in today and traced fault to the vacuum valve on top of rad, had a identical van in and swopped valve with other van, it seems the waste gate was being opened to soon it does not smoke any more now either which was the worn turbo ,but I just wanted to ask if any one knows if the regeneration can be changed from 300 miles to some thing like 500 miles or more with maybe a tech 2 thanks paul

Paul, not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but DPF regeneration is not mileage dependant in it's own right.
The ECU initiates regen when 'sees' certain parameter's exceeded, i.e. soot level, the primary mover being the Differential Pressure Sensor.
Although certain diagnostic tools can command a regen, it is not a process that can pre set to regulary occur.

on this model it regenerates every 300 miles exactly ive heard on some its 250 miles
