Vauxhall Meriva 1.7 CDTi 2004 - 3 faults and hunting, P1216, P1243 & P0400 - Unresolved #

( Optional ) Scanner Used: superscan

hi everyone i had this come in today with idle hunting and these 3 faults also the mil is on
i took a snapshot of the faults deleted them and gave the car to the customer to drive and come back for a rescan.does anybody have any experience with these fault codes? boost pressure on idle commanded was 101kpa and actual 95kpa fuel pressure desired at 2.500rpm was 108mpa and acrual 113mpa and egr on idle commanded 76% and pulse ratio 99% the hunting is only on idle and it drives well any ideas?

A slim posibility but it could be fuse f14 - 7.5A as this is for boost control sol and EGR but i'd expect to have another code listed for intake manifold flap as that's on the same fuse but you never know.

Can't helpout with the fuel control circuit error as that could be a sticking control valve, faulty fuel rail sensor etc.

A job for a scope i think.

What is the engine code and what is the ECU system ?

As i,m not sure you can get that combination of fault code discription,s with tech2/MDI.

i have deleted the faults and advised customer to drive it a couple of days and bring it back ecu is dec 30 and engine code is z17dth it has done 138.000 miles when i drove the car it felt normal and had a good pull only the idle hunts between 850-900rpm and the mil is on. i will have a better look at it when it comes back. what is the best way to test the egr system? and where is it? thanks for your repplies

As i suspected P400 critical 2 is not listed in TIS for dec 30 system.
I would advise getting it on Tech 2/MDI.

hi kev i have used superscan 2 which autodetected
the ecu i also used opus cmt and it too gave me the same 3 faults

The same codes BUT different discription for P400 which means a different diagnostic path.

Have you visually examined / removed the EGR to check for damaged / broken valve ? and correct operation off the car ?

hi john the car is coming back tomorrow for more testing if the egr fault code is there then i will check the wiring or even remove the egr valve for a close up investigation but i can't see how this can cause the idle hunting while the car drives very well

Here are some captures from a 2005 Meriva Z17 DTH

This car came in for a service and there were no known faults with the vehicle.

FRPS&MAF idle to WOT

Fuel system profile. ign on, idle, crank & start, WOT, idle, ign off

The captures were taken in neutral free revving I have put some cursors up to help show some measurements.

hi james thanks for your post the car came back today and scanned the ecu and it was only showing
po400 egr fault. i also scoped the ams and that
was good very similar to yours, idealy the egr
should be removed and checked but it's in such a difficult position it looks like a day's work, and i am not convinced it can cause this symptom
idle hunting when hot and cutting out when cold
otherwise it pulls very well. i also did a smoke test on the induction system and smoke seems to
pooring out from turbo boost valve but not posible to see well as this engine is horribly packed up. the customer is now thinging to go ahead with repairs or part exchange.

Hi

This one gone unresolved the customer did't want to spend any more money, but most propably it was the egr valve sticking.
