Year of Manufacture *: 2007 Engine Size and Code *: 3.0 V6 TDI BUG ( Optional ) Scanner Used: VAG COM ( Optional) Fault Codes: 012597 OR P3135
Hi All
Had this Q7 come in with engine management light on and a code was stored 012597 or P3135 intake manifold limit not reached. We have operated them through vag com and both seem to be working. How can we determine which side it is? I know you have to replace motor and flap assembly together and its very expensive.
Many Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,
Disconnect one actuator & see what code is logged.
IIRC left bank is bank 1.

Hi As Glyn says disconnect each one etc. Normally when no location given its the drivers side. Its best to do both or advise your customer to do both as otherwise it will be back in a couple of months for the other one.

Audi quote 4 hours for 2. 3.5 hours for 1.
We give the customer the option & our experience of this fault ( the other runner isn't far behind wear wise ).
Incredible how many have one replaced then sell the vehicle.
The fault usually logs when free play is evident in the link rod ball joint - if you work the linkage by hand from the runners motor end of the linkage, you can see the rod trying to move laterally off the ball joint on the manifold flap linkage. This minute extra travel is what the ECU identifies as an incorrect stop. In the worst case I've seen the rods had disconnected at the manifold ball joint.
If using VCDS, the runners can usually be operated in an output test - if the fault is logged in the memory, the worn one will not operate. Cycling the ignition also operates the runner motors as a self check sequence.

FIXED
We unplugged one motor at a time and see what codes showed up it seems like the o/s one was at fault. Replaced motor and flap assembly and all is good again.
