I have been passed this to try to identfy/ repair where a bearing screeching noise is coming from.
The history is (that i been told) taxi driver bought this from local Mazda dealers 3 months ago, driving along last week and this noise just started, instantley. He took it back to them but they refused to look at it on warrinty i guess as he had not told them of its intended use.
The oil level was slightly high so i drain it of and replaced.
So far auxillary belt is removed, cam belt has been off and there is no play or noticble noise from the
waterpump, or tensioner or idoler pulleys.
The fuel pump does feel tight in 2 spots around its 360 degree rotation, I assume from the piston/vanescompressing diesel. Allthough from memory are these Denso pumps ment to be tight? Just rotated a bosh HP pump and its not tight.
I have removed the turbo air feed pipe and felt the turbo shaft for end play and there is no excessive play.
With a stethascope the noise is more apparent towards the front of the engine around the fuel rail.
But it does resonate all around the engine.
Im hoping someone may have come across this before, and maybe its fuel resonating in the rail.
Also no fault codes with IDS and rail pressure and injector corrections all look good in data logger.
Alan, this sounds almost identical to a problem I had on a 2.0 Mazda Diesel a short while ago. In my case the engine was a reconditioned unit from a source in Manchester (who ended up being very helpful and I would use again!). The noise came from the oil pump drive gears, the teeth on the crank were damaged. The only way to see was to remove the sump which was quite a process. I cant find any of the pictures or video I took at the time unfortunately.
I have convinced him to have another go at Mazda for warranty due to the fact that he had only purchased the car from them 3 months ago and he has had it serviced with them 6 weeks ago.
This should be covered under 'presumption of pre-existence' 6 month consumer law

Just to confirm that this noise was meshed oil pump gear with crankshaft, A new bottom end is being fitted under warranty by Mazda.
Its seems to be caused by diluted oil/diesel causing poor lubrication.
