Saab 93 1.9 Tid DTH 2007 - Limp home mode, code P242F & P0400 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 1.9tid dth
( Optional ) Scanner Used: kts650
( Optional) Fault Codes: p242f p0400

Got a saab in that has just had an egr valve fitted to cure the code p0400 which it has done. On road test the car started off much better than before until about 3 miles in it went into limp home mode/reduced performance and it popped up p242f unkown fault. The p242f from googling is DPF sensor range performance?

I checked the dpf saturation in actual values and thats at 4%, the particulate difference pressure is 2kpa when idling. I think this all looks normal but i havent had much experiance with dpfs. Any tips on where to go from here? (apart from to the dealer!haha)

P.s Just done some digging on this forum and perhaps the dpf is blocked due to a stuck egr valve? But i dont understand why the car runs fine until its done about 3 miles or so.

we have had one or two of these that just required software updates, you could find someone with the saab card in there tech 2 to check

2kpa on idle is fine but does reading drop to zero with engine off?

The "DPF sensor range/performance" would have me checking the pipes and can you monitor pressure during road test?

Also the pressure sensor is the same as the Vectra.

Hi Nick,

We had a similar issue with a 2005 TID 1.9DTH that had DPF & Air-mass meter codes, ours was a split intake pipe.

Thanks for all your replies! I use our leak tester on the dpf pressure pipe and have already used it on the intake side and found no leaks. The pressure reading drops back to minus 1kpa at idle now after i took the dpf off yesterday and cleaned it out. I took the car on a 20 mile road test and it now flies with no error reported.
Seems to be fine now but the minus kpa is worrying me slightly??

In my experience in order to carry out a sensor plausability test readings should be 0 or slightly minus with key on engine off.

I believe on your road test the vehicle has performed its own regen and the sensor is probably fine.

There could be many reasons why the filter blocked in the first place as you know but I always advise my customers of the correct driving style for the vehicle to peform its own regeneration to avoid unnecessary blocking of the DPF.

Thanks again for all your replies and advice. Took the vehicle on another road test and all seems fine, have given car back to the driver and hopefully thats the last we see of it.
I have a feeling our garage will see alot more DPF problems on other cars sometime soon......
