Hyundai Matrix 1.5 CRDi 2003 - Cutting out, code P1181 fuel pressure monitor #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 1.5 crdi
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Texa txt
( Optional) Fault Codes: P1181 fuel pressure monitor

This matrix cuts out but only at over 70 mph and only sometimes, when it feels like it ..

When it cuts out, there is a total loss of power and the engine stops and will not restart for about 5 minutes.

I have P1181 fuel pressure monitor as a dtc which im struggling to find a clear definition for.

Also the live data for fuel temp is ranging from -40c to 350c, i cant find any reference to a fuel temp sensor.

Has anyone experienced this on this model ?
any help greatly appreciated .

With all due respect I think the fault code is quite clear.

Its not happy with the rail pressure that it is monitoring.

What live data readings have you logged whilst on road test and what are they telling you?

I drove the car for 50 miles today and it didnt miss a beat and the live data looked ok.

the dtc appears to be for high fuel pressure so i will be taking a closer look in this area.

Start off with the low pressure circuit, without correct low pressure you will never get the correct high pressure.

HI Ed,
had the same problem last week on a Sorento which already had a new fuel filter fitted. I temporarily bypassed the filter and the vehicle was then perfect so I fitted a Genuine one and all was well.

Eamonn,

i spoke to an ex dealer tech today who mentioned fuel filter head problems so i think im on the right track now.

Im picking the car up tommorow for some further testing, hopefully it will play up for me .

Test the pressure differential across the filter and the pumps ability to draw/supply the fuel.

The car stopped for me tonight while on a test drive and i now know there is no fuel pressure, the live data dropped off to nothing as soon as it cut.

I tried to activate the fuel pump through the scan tool and nothing happened,so a quick slap on the tank with my fist and it started again.

I will check connections and current draw on the pump in the morning but im pretty sure i have now pinpointed the fault.
