Mazda 2 1.4 TDCi 2003 - Excessive black smoke - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 1.4 TDCi
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Carmon
( Optional) Fault Codes: No Faults

I have a Mazda 2 1.4 TDCi 2003 with excessive black smoke, cleaned out EGR, inlet manifold, checked injectors, turbo pressure,etc,I was hoping to disconnect the MAP sensor to reduce the amount of fuel but can't find MAP sensor, rang Mazda agent with chassis number but they say there's not one listed, how can i reduce the amount of fuel when I don't have a MAP sensor ?

It may not be over fuelling, it could be under airing.

I'm Getting plenty of turbo boost and no lack of power, but i can't understand how a turbo diesel can work with no MAP sensor and not give black smoke. John

do you have boost pressure reading on live data ? is the turbo waste gate controlled via solenoid or simply boost pressure acting on control capsule?

I am interested on your thoughts of disconnecting map to reduce fueling / smoke surly that would force a limp home situation.

Air flow cam be measured by MAF to control smoke.

Black smoke is a sign of not enough air which would be caused by a restriction of some sort ie, blocked air filter, carbon build up etc! Does this have the 'doser' unit to control air flow through the intercooler, is this operating correctly? I'm guessing its the same engine as the fords and therefore the peugeots?

I looked into the inlet manifold & stuck a bit of thick wire down as far as I could & when I pulled it out it was covered in black oily carbon, the turbo was blowing out very little oil so I cleaned the inlet manifold out with 'BG Induction System Cleaner' took the car for a good spin, I had excessive black smoke for a while but it cleared out after a couple of miles, car is about 90% better, have given car back to customer and we'll just have to wait. Thanks for all the help.

Happy days, customer took his mazda for the nct emission test this morning and passed emission test with flying colours, cleaning out the inlet manifold seems to have done the trick,Looks like the mass air flow sensor takes the place of the map sensor,the car is 2003 with no map sensor fitted but a map sensor was fitted from 2005. Thanks for the help. John
