Peugeot 307 1.6 HDi 2005 - Intermittent non start when hot (scope image attached) #

Engine Size and Code *: 1600
( Optional ) ECU Type: Bosch
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Modis
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0335

Hello all,

Car was brought to us as intermittent non start when hot after been stood for about ten mins,starts fine when cold.

Keeps coming up with pcode P0335 after it doesn't start.i have scoped the cam and crank sensor (image attached) i have load tested all the wires to the crank sensor with teslite,all ok.I`m heading down the route of sending the ecu off to get tested.

Would any one have a good known cam/crank scope picture for me to compare with?Any opinions with scope trace would be appreciated.

Yellow- crank signal
Green-crank 5v supply
Blue-crank earth
Red- camshaft sensor signal

Forgot to mention to it has had a new cranksensor

we had one with the wiring to the crank sensor chafing going down the back of the engine nr. the timing cover a while back.
was that scope capture taken at the components or ecu?

Hi Lee,

Scope the cam and crank signals at the ECU when cold and as a non start hot, compare the two and post if needed.

Hi,

Ye scoped at the ecu (it was easier to get to than the sensor which was a bonus),I will try and get a non start trace tomorrow and post both.

I load tested the wires so I took that would get rid of any chaffing issues but I will double check the wiring tomorrow.

Morning all,

I have double checked the wiring,load tested them with a 55w bulb just incase my teslite was playing up,all wiring is fine.

Another code came up this morning that hasnt come up before P0341 cylinder reference signal.A good known cam/crank scope image would be good to compare with,otherwise im going to check the cambelt.

I have captured the image when it doesnt start below.

The images below are when the car doesnt start initially then does.

Can't really explain very well what i mean but i'll give it ago,

Shouldn't a digital hall effect sensor output its maximum signal voltage despite engine speed unlike an inductive type sensor where the signal voltage increases with engine speed.

In other words i thought it was a fixed output type sensor but just the speed of on/off altered on your scope screen so you change the sweep time to suit.

So when the engine is cranking it appears as if the on/off is slow but when at idle it appears to be faster but it isn't, its just occuring faster.

hope you understand that. Of course this could be a complete load of rubbish and i've got really confused and don't quite understand my self but would like to be corrected/educated eithe way.

Hi lee,

Ye that's what i thought of all this.Reading James dillon scope book that's what i can make out.Maybe seeing the low voltage at the start of crank is what is throwing me.Need a good on to compare/understand.

I suppose the best thing to do is test the supply voltage and earth to the CKP sensor when its a non starter or poor starter.

This should then at least rule out a supply/earth issue.

Could you do a capture from cranking upto idle when its in a starting mode, also maybe disable it so it doesn't start, then you can get a capture just cranking and see what the switching voltage is then.
