Vauxhall Combo 1.3 JTD 2005 - Intermittent loss of power #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 1.3
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Launch

Customer complains of intermittent loss of power. Codes logged for fuel pressure regulator and low fuel pressure but no problems whilst on test so inconclusive..
Its had new lift pump and HP pump but still does it. I was going to change the regulator but she says its worse when the tank gets low. But she never puts more than £20 at a time in it so that may be a red herring.Euro's keep the bosch regulator on the shelf so are they a common failing?

Have you tested the sensor?

OR The injectors?

not much diagnostics done on this on due to this fault.Injectors, fuel filter,pump in the tank etc.

The diagnostic route appears to be controlled via what is in stock at the factors.

I wonder how much the HP pump was that the vehicle didn't need.

what is live data telling you?

What is happening in the low pressure supply circuit?

Is the rail pressure sensor telling the truth?

How old is the fuel filter?

Ok. I came in after the HP pump and the in tank pump had been changed. As far as CR goes its still new to me and Im feeling my way. Its the usual scenario, they have spent all the money with other people and now I have to fix it and I'll only get one shot. I started with codes, P1191 and P1093. recorded and cleared. Checked Air and coolant temp actual v measured no problem there. ok. I have desired FP at 25Mpa, actual at 25Mpa at idle and they pretty much mirror each other as you load up the engine. bear in mind no fault found during test drive. Leak off test all injectors were virtually identical. Fuel filter is new. What should the low pressure be?

Hi Andrew,

I will try to help you, but how would you feel if your doctor said the following to you;

Replace to word CR with lung cancer.

We all have to start somewhere, and it should be in a training session where we can "feel our way" until the cows come home.

The two fault codes you have refer to both the low and high circuits, in my view you need to prove the low pressure supply circuit first.

What is the engine code?

What pressure have you got in the supply line?

How are you testing it?

What pressure have you got in the return line?

Thank you for your assistance here Mark.I'll go back and check the supply pressure and volume and come back with the results. My concern is the intermittent nature of the fault
Do you have any recommendations as to training?
Its a Y13DT engine code btw

Bosch's common rail course VSD is good.

Also James Dillon & Frank Massey deliver common rail courses.

There are other courses available, only posting on the providers that I have attended.
