Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTi 2004 - Non start - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Size and Code *: 1.7cdti
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solus pro

Hi

Car won't start spins over and tries to fire fuel pressure ok and rail pressure showing ok on scanner no codes stored dont know were to start did fit a new tdc sensor but still the same it spins over but just wont catch no matter were the throttle is if it were petrol its like its flooded and wont pick up any would be grateful

Take the EDU off the back of the engine block, open up and solder the joints.

If as the post suggest,s it,s common rail it will not have an EDU.

you say it tries to fire.Are injectors being triggered?
If so any white/grey smoke from exhaust?
From what info you have given i have a feeling that egr valve is stuck open.not enough combustible air.

ive checked data the injection pulse seems low, its 0.1 on cranking think it should be a lot higher, if i crack open a injector pipe theres not much pressure and on cranking is not tring to fire as soon as you tighten it up its trying to fire, rail pressure on the scanner says its ok from actual to desired am i looking at this wrong ?

It has been said so many times here before, you need a sealed vessel to get pressure.

Buy a delphi pressure test kit.

Still no engine code ? Timing check ? compressions etc.

sorry kev this jobs not mine im trying to help a mate the engine code is z17dtl the cam timing etc is all ok just thought the inj pulse of 0.1 is very low ?

Paul had this problem a few months ago. The car would start when cold then went on to no start when hot then no start at all. You realy need to check the fuel pressure with the correct tool.

This vehicle had no DTC's but fuel pressure was low. The fault was the pressure regulator which is bolted to the high pressure pump held on with three torx bolts and a two wire connector. Take it off and have a look at the "O" ring or swap the regulator for a known good one. These regulators do not come without the high pressure pump according to the dealer, but Andrew Page can get hold of them if you give them the Bosch part number.

thanks keith on the pressure tester subject i cant really afford a delphi tester but bergen do one which goes from 0-145psi or 0-1000kpa would this be suitable

Hi Paul I can't comment on the Bergen tester, but this was the first tester I bought then added to it http://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/crdi.php it's never let me down.

In a word, NO. High pressure diesel systems can run at pressures exceeding 30,000 psi

With all due respect, if you are going to start testing high pressure diesel systems you must buy the correct kit, other wise you are pissing in the wind and putting your own safety at risk.

As Mark says, modern diesel injection systems run at life threatening pressures, you can't "crack an injector pipe" anymore, once you have done that it has to be replaced,let alone the danger you are exposing yourself to.

Because modern diesels have the capacity to kill me by dermal injection I am very careful as to what work I will take on with these systems, Keith Geach may be along to comment soon, luckily I have a good diesel specialist close by, I know my limitations, we can't do everything on all cars, those days have passed.

just thought i would let you know the outcome of this vehicle it turned out to be the pick up ring on the crank was broken due to a thrust washer falling out hope this helps in future

we took the tdc sensor out to try a new one and it looked scuffed so stuck a probe up to have a look and could see teeth missing when we took sump off a thrust washer had fallen out

we dont know what has caused it so customer has opted for replacement engine
