Sudden loss of power and massive oil smoke from exhaust. Removal of hose from inter-cooler to inlet manifold and revving engine produces spray of oil!
The oil level is low and the engine does not appear to be pressurizing.
I am presuming that this is a turbo failure (Unless anybody has any other suggestions)
Now, My query is. Does anybody have a procedure for replacing the turbo? Autodata suggest that this should take about 2.5 hrs but this doesn't seem enough considering the rather poor looking access.
Also, are there likely to be any nasty surprises, EG the bolt that always snaps and so on..)
Paul Most likely turbo, easy job in 2.5 hours on a lift or ramp. I would also remove the R/cover and clean the breather. Kev. ps get the turbo from VW. about £600+vat IIRC. oil (PD) and filter change vital.
