VW Golf V TDi BMN 2007 - Misfire after new injector fitted #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: BMN
( Optional ) Scanner Used: vag-com
( Optional) Fault Codes: no codes

I took on a golf from another garage it was not running when it came in. I traced the fault to a failed injector, fitted a new injector and ran it up and it has now developed a missfire under load, I understand there is a way to set up the injectors but cannot find the information online or in autodata, does anybody know the correct procedure for setting them up?

Hi Paul

A assume you are referring to the rocker arm adjustment ?

The method is to rotate then engine until the injector rocker is on the highest point of cam i.e injector fully down.( use a Dial gauge) Then turn adjuster screw clockwise until increased resistance is felt (quite obvious when you do it) then back of the screw the correct preset amount.

If you ring Auto data they will give you the exact setting for your engine code most likely 180 or 220 degrees

Paul,
had a garage customer with exactly the same scenario. The new injector came with two new bolts from TPS, of slightly different lengths! Sods law says he got them in the wrong holes, giving a slight blow at the injector seat, only detected when he removed the injector for inspection. Ross-tech gave me an ecu re-set procedure for the new injector, worth giving them an e-mail. With the time difference you will have a reply by the morning,

FIXED.Thanks Peter you were spot on.the problem was that we dont know the car and it came in as a none runner and when we did our tests and found number 4 injector fault we just replaced it with a genuine one and used the same bolts which were 95mm long but when i removed all the other bolts on the other injectors they were only 84mm approx.so some one had been in there before.so probably already had a misfire.what a crazy system where it cuts engine out completly when only 1 injector becomes faulty especially if your on a motorway.I got some correct bolts and refitted injector and everything ok now.Thanks again for your advice.and autotalk.

Hi Paul,

If you have removed any other Injector bolts you should replace them (do not re-use)

Also the new Injector should be "phased" to the cam profile as Aidan mentioned in an earlier reply.
