SAAB 9-3 1.9 TDi 2006 - Code P2452, DPF pressure sensor circuit A - Fixed #

Engine Size and Code *: 1900cc
( Optional ) Scanner Used: ACR4 (G2) and Dealer Tool
( Optional) Fault Codes: P2452

Evening,

There is a story behind this which is both long and complicated which I won't go into at the moment. It revolves around Fault Code P2452 which relates to DPF Pressure Sensor Circuit A. This DTC was revealed on my ACR. However, reading the main dealers print out it shows P2452-58 and is simply listed as DPF fault. I wish to find out what the "58" refers to and its meaning as a matter of interest. It should be pointed out that the DPF has been removed and subsequently programmed out and re-mapped by me.

I have trawled the tinterweb and archives to no avail.

Are you saying the dpf is programmed out and you have P2452 in memory and a mil light on?

Yes. I would have thought with the DPF programmed out then the ECU would not see any DPF codes otherwise there would be little purpose in re-programming it. Might have to have another chat with my software man if you concur.

ecu shouldn't expect the info from the dpf sensors. In my opinion software problem

Looks like software must be junk,All dpf codes should be disabled.

Whats going to happen with these cars if DPF recognition becomes a requirement for MOT? 2008 smoke limits may already be tricky to meet.

Morning All,

Once again, thanks for your interest and replies. Further background to this vehicle as follows: not sure if this is salient though.

Vehicle originally went into limp mode and diagnosed by main dealer as DPF blocked. They tried a forced regen but after a few minutes the ECU abandoned the procedure. Customer advised that a new DPF was required and due to the cost, decided to go down DPF removal route. I attended the vehicle and did the necessary re-programme. During the test drive the vehicle started to blue smoke heavily. After consultation with customer and my software engineer, it was decided that the ECU was still trying to perform a forced regeneration. Vehicle was returned to main dealer to have the counters reset. This cured the smoking and vehicle drove well. The car is used primarily for long journeys and after a journey of approx 250 miles the EML illuminated showing fault code P2452. Vehicle drove well but on occasion would drop into limp mode which would cancel when ignition was switched off/on. It was at this point I first posted the problem. The current state of play is that the customer was advised to have the DPF pressure sensor replaced on the theory that the internal diaphram was damaged when the DPF became blocked. He has been away for 2 weeks and due back later this week.

So, at the moment I am conducting research into this (with your help) but I am now minded to go back to my software guy and demand a few answers because I do not want my customer to spend unnecessary money on something which is not going to cure the problem.

Sorry for the long post, but I felt the need for the full story to be aired if it helps and to clarify the situation I am now in.

Phil... I am advised that the DPF will almost certainly become part of the MOT test in the next few years but will not become back-dated. So any DPF removal work undertaken now will not be subject to test.

NB. As an after-thought I should mention that the blue smoking started after the forced re-gen. So it was there prior to me re-programming it. Incidently, they thought that the clouds of blue smoke was normal for that engine which is why a DPF has been fitted!

Thought I would post an update on this. About a week ago, returned to vehicle and the fault code P2452 had disappeared although DPF fault remained on dash-board. Customer was invited to take the vehicle to my soft-ware engineer's premises and have the DPF pressure sensor replaced. This was done and adaptions reset. Vehicle is now driving fine with no smoke, nor EML illuminated. He is embarking on a long journey at the end of the month and we shall see how it goes.

Hi All,

This appears NOT to be a soft-ware fault. Vehicle had the DPF sensor replaced and adaptions reset about a month ago. During this time it has been run daily and a long run to Aberdeen and back. Vehicle runs fine with no smoke or EML illuminated and according to the customer the fuel consumption has improved by about 25%. We have a happy bunny...including me

Hi Pete, I'm a bit confused over this. If the DPF has been programmed out of the ecu, why does it need to see the pressure sensor? Could you see the value of the old pressure sensor in live data? Regards, Steve Lacey.

Hi Steve,

Yes I am also confused on this issue. As you say the DPF DTC's have been programmed out of the ECU and should not see the pressure sensor fault. My gear did not give live readings on the sensor, however when the customer took it to my software guy he found on his kit as the DPF being 130% full which as he says is impossible. The only other possible explanation I can think of is that he re-reprogrammed the car with the correct soft-ware. Not sure why he would deceive me on this if this is the case because he could have sent me the soft-ware for me to up-load to the vehicle instead of the customer traipsing across E. Yorkshire for it to be done.

Anyway, all is well now.
