Year of Manufacture *: 2002 Engine Size and Code *: 2.5 YD25DDTI
Hi guys. I have Just rebuilt a cat D 2002 Nissan Navara D22 2.5 DI YD25DDTI. I finished putting the front together today. I towed the truck, to get it to my yard for repair, for a couple of miles, and smoke started coming from under the bonnet. I stopped towing, and had a look, oil was being pushed out of the front diff and stunk. I trailerd it the rest of the way. The front near side brake was seized which is what I put the front diff problem down to. I drained all the diff oil, and renewed it. I test drove the car to see how it was. First problem was a loud creaking from the front when wheels turned full lock, and suspension being worked. Second problem, no power in 3rd gear, but fly's in first and second. 3rd problem, a noise from the front of the engine, which comes and goes, I thought that the plastic surround on the back of the rad had fallen on the viscous fan, as this is what it sounded like, but it was coming from the engine, and finally the last problem, when in 4wd the truck feels like its being held back, buy a seized brake or something. Tomorrow I'm going for a good look at it, and see how much I can get through diagnostic wise. I'll come back to you tomorrow.

That sound like the nylon caps worn on the lock stops.
Second fault, low power in third, try a search on forum, think that has been covered before.

I Did read some previous post last night. The engine going flat in 3rd is covered. I have heard of the lock stop situation before, I forgot what they were called. The engine timing problems is covered, and a possible recall was mentioned. I think that this could be the noise that is coming from the engine. I have phoned Nissan this morning, and It is booked in for next Wednesday, and Thursday, to have the timing recall work carried out. Even if the timing gear with my Nissan is fine, I get to have some knew bits and work done for free, including an oil change, as the sump pan will have to come off, to get the timing case off, and also some new gaskets and seals. I will get this work carried out first, then move on to the 3rd gear problem, lock stops and the 4wd problem. I've got diffs and gearboxes on the floor if need be. I will keep you posted
With regards to low power in 3rd, there is a switch top drivers side of gearbox that restricts the revs in neutral and when it sticks etc + gives low power.[can try cleaning or fit new if u/s]
