VW Sharan 1.9 TDi AUY 2002 - Lack of power, codes 17964 / P1556 #

Engine Size and Code *: 19tdi auy
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solous pro
( Optional) Fault Codes: 17964/ P1556

Hi all

This vehical came in with lack of power,turbo was noisey and wastegate valve lever was stiff nd not moving fully to its stop,egr diaphram was not holding its vacume so replaced turbo nd egr all control solinoids in good working order turbo pipes vacume pipes good condition,now when road tested still has same lack of power nd same fault code comes up.checked that exhaust was not blocked.noticed on live dater that mass air flow was not reaching desired air flow.
at 3500 rpm
mass air flow(desired)mg/s850
mass air flow(actual)mg/s 450
had air flow metre nd map sensor at hand so tryed them no change.Any one no what i should be checking from here.

The Solus Pro will also read out actual and desired turbo boost pressure.Evaluate these readings and check for a boost leak and efficient operation of turbo.My guess is that you have no boost pressure.

can anyone suply me with a picture of the lay out of the vacume pipe system would like to make sure its correct,cheers.

all turbo pipes removed and checked for leeks.turboboost desired is same as actual at idle but when reved if anything actual boost drops very slightly any one no why this may b.even took turo back for them to dobble check.

Hi Philip,

I would suggest that you may have an air leak on the positive side of the turbo or the turbo its self has a fault.

Hi I would question your actual & desired figures on the air flow meter; these are such common problems on this particular engine. The only reliable way to check the MAF is to scope it. If the MAF is down it won’t allow the proper turbo boost to achieve the correct, actual figures. I know you say you have tried another MAF I would question was it the correct MAF for that engine code and a known good one? It’s not a matter of swopping parts, but understanding whether the original parts are achieving the correct values.
