Peugeot 406 2.0 RHZ 2003 - Will not start of key below zero #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 2L RHZ

Hi

Will not start when bellow freezing unless helped with squirt of easystart or fires straight up with push will not jump start. Starts no prob even when temp 1 above.

Heater plugs working fine, tried batteries and starters, injector pump, fuel filter housing this car had same prob last winter ran rest of year without any trouble. Have another car same make and modle exact same problem. All compressions test ok

I see that you have replaced a lot of things, but what have you tested and what were the results?

hi phil,i would start with checking cranking speed and fuel pressure scope testing at pressure sensor in fuel rail this will give you an indication of pressure generated by pump.i have been to this kind of fault before are the parts news or second hand.peugeot hdi i posted about had over £1000 spent on it by 3 diffenet garages. start with the basics and remember test dont guess....

starter motor crank tested and bench tested results good,fuel rail pressure was little low replaced pump now good but problem still occurs when temp drops bellow freezing.

Hi Philip,
In your first post you said tried starters (plural) but in your last post you say tested?
You also said that it fires straight away with a push? If you check the archives you will find many cases of these having starter problems even though they are supposed to be ok. I believe the two main problems are cranking speed slightly low causing fuel pressure problems and noise affecting the RPM signal. If you post some test results I'm sure that some of the more knowledgeable members may be able to help steer you in the right direction, but I would certainly be wondering why it starts so easily with a push.

when i get the car back in i will post results of tests but peugeot auto electrician also spent some time on car and found cranking to be fine cheers for input any help welcome.
