Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTi (Isuzu) 2005 - Fault code P2279 intake air system leak detected - Fixed #

( Optional) Fault Codes: P2279 Intake air system leak detected

Hi all,We have a fault on a Astra 1.7cdti fitted with the Isuzu engine.The vehicle performs fine untill it reaches around 4,000 rpm and placed under demand,after this it runs in default with check light displayed.
Checked out with Tech 2 and fault code P2279 intake air system leak detected.
We have carried out a full induction leak test with smoke pro and cannot find any leaks.
Carried out actuation test on control solenoid responsible for communicating vac supply to vac cell, which in turn operates flaps in manifold.All test ok.Have road tested car and monitored datastream,cannot see any abnormal values,also removed boost pressure sensor and cleaned carbon from orifice.
Would welcome any ideas please on this problem.

I would start by cleaning the egr and then road test to see if the fault has gone. Also check the air filter is clean and the MAF readings.

Just be aware that smoke pro is low pressure and not a 100% test for turbo boost systems. I have had split rubber pipes that did not show with smoke pro.

Thank you Matt and Aiden for you input,we ran the car on our dyno this afternoon and can normally identify leaks underload,but in this case no leaks heard.We were fortunate enough to be able to take a power measurement 77.5bhp [spec 80bhp]and measure air mass meter output 4.2V [full load]momentarilly before the fault set in.
Considering that maybe the egr valve is sticking open causing a depreciation in air flow across air mass meter and the ecu interprets this as a air leak.Customer has taken vehicle away now and returning next week,keep you posted.

hi,i had this before,try resetting adaption or removing battery,for some unknown reasons vauxhalls and some other makes seem to store poor data and cause us to go round and round in circles,worth a go.

Looks like you have all the tools needed to nail this one, am quite surprised you're asking for help, tech 2 and dyno?

If you run it on the dyno and take a snapshot, you will see everything you need to know, just need to upload it to tis and you can graph the lot.

I have a corsa in at the moment for remapping, although it's a 100hp it's isuzu with denso ecu, I'm assuming yours is denso too. tech 2 has data for desired and actual for most of the major measurements so is really good. and this ecu has a map for expected airmass, so the MAF is critical.

If you can get it back on the dyno, do a run, log it and send it over if you want, I'll take a look.

FIXED.Hi all.
We finally got this one back to work on again since mid december due to the customer recovering from a long illness.The fault was traced to a split in one of the hoses,despite testing the system with smoke pro twice, and running the car on the dyno listening for any air escaping.
Guess there is no substitute for the eye's,sometimes strip down and inspection is the only way.Thanks to Chris Angus who offered to look at a log from tech 2 and all of you that replied.
