Range Rover 2.7 TD V6 2006 - Excessive black smoke - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
Engine Size and Code *: 276 DT
( Optional) Fault Codes: No Faults

Range Rover 2.7TD V6 Excessive black smoke. Cleaned out inlet manifold, New air filter. Checked EGR valves[2] and Inlet manifold flap. No black smoke when we rev up engine stationary but when we drive it on the road we get a lot of black smoke on acceleration. Would like to disconnect egr valves but afraid ecu may notice and register fault code. Any ideas ?

I assume, if a TDV6, you mean a Range Rover Sport?

Have you checked the large intercooler hose on the driver's side of the engine, for about an inch long slit in it at the rear face, at the upper end, nearest the engine?

EGR's can be blanked on this assuming it's a 2006 model year & not later.

Yes Steve it is a Range Rover Sport TDV6, Have checked the turbo / intercooler pipe, it looks ok. Will block off the EGR valve and pray. We did put a set of injectors in the Range Rover Sport 2.7 tdv6 first but they made no difference,problem is the customer will not pay unless vehicle passes smoke test.

Checked Turbo Pipes,ok, Pressurized Air Intake System From Turbo Outlet To Manifold, Intercooler Leaking.Found Hole In Intercooler, Have Removed And Waiting For New One. J C

Yes, After fitting intercooler on Range Rover Sport 2.7 tdv6, Not a easy job, had to take out AC & Engine Radiators First, Took for a spin, plenty of power & no black smoke, Happy days.Thanks everyone for your help,

It's good to talk. Now the real problem starts trying to get paid for Injectors, Intercooler And labour etc. J.C.

Surely the injectors are down to yourself? You can't be expecting the customer to pay for your incompetence and misdiagnosis?

What it worse Ian, is the shameless way in which the tale is told.

It is almost like it is becoming acceptable to roll the diagnostic dice & hope for the best!

What on earth happened to an informed diagnostic approach, based on test results & a good understanding of the patient?

OK we can't hope to have a full understanding of every car that comes through the doors, but it is the repairers responsibility to ensure that he/she approaches the task of repairing it responsibly & fairly.

This "Fred in a Shed" style of repair only does harm to the trade & is not fair on the customer!

I would not be able to sleep at night
