Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDi BLB 140 - Severe vibration in 6th gear at 40 to 50 mph - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005 "55" plate
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 tdi 140bhp BLB eng. code
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Vag- Com
( Optional) Fault Codes: no fault codes

Severe Vibration when flooring throttle in 6th gear from 40 or 50 mph also happens in other gears at lower speeds.
The vibration is through the gear lever as if engine mounts are shot, this is not a metallic vibration.
When started from cold the car drives perfect, no hint of vibes,no fault codes on vag-com.
Have replaced Flywheel, clutch(LUK)and eng.mounts and tandem pump at rear of head,no play in drive shafts. car has done 100k with full history.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Does the vibration dissapear if you ease of the accelerator & cruise the throttle?

I would revisit the drive shafts I think. They can be difficult to diagnose without dismantling & carefully inspecting for wear.

What was the thinking behind the tandem pump replacement, or was that done for an unrelated fault?

Thanks for the response Dave.
If the throttle is held when the vibration occurs,the vibes stay,back off and it goes.
Will be swapping shafts this afternoon from donor vehicle.
Reason for trying tandem pump was that a friend and ex Audi mechanic thought it could be injector misfire due to lack of fuel pressure.
Also forgot to say that I took the car to the main dealers to upgrade ECU software,their w/shop manager said fuel pressure should be checked next.
It was easier to try another pump from donor car which was a known quantity.
Software upgrade made no difference.
Let you know what happens with the shafts, cheers,D.

What easier than taking out one blanking plug and fitting a pressure gauge??????

Did you think to look at the internal filter while you were carring out this easy job ?

Hi Mark,
It was the easiest option as I did not have the fi
ttings for pump as it is so close to the bulkhead.
With car up on lift and ticking over,there is a slight bearing noise from g/box,drained oil and found some swarf,so maybe a needle roller broken up.
will investigate later today,thanks again.D
