Ford Transit 2.2 2007 - Cutting out, fault code P068a? #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 2.2 130 bhp qwfa
( Optional ) Scanner Used: modis
( Optional) Fault Codes: p068a

Hello all,

Had this transit today, cuts out twice a week, no obvious pattern when, i went on a long road test with the scanner plugged in to collect live data.

Going up a hill the temp had been steady at 95c then it cut out and noticed the temp reading shot up to 102 then back to 95, it was a bumpy road to so don't know if it was coincidence, tried to get it to do it again but it wouldn't.

Checked all feeds a grounds, nothing obvious

Only code it comes up with is P068a `ecm/pcm power relay de energised performance to early` had a look in the code breaker book doesn't give much info, any body know where i can get more info on code?as in what controls it etc? thanks for any replies

Hi james,

I want to try and find out roughly how the circuit/system works first,as i know this customer will question everything i put on the van.regards

Hi Lee. Auto Data has a wiring diagram for your vehicle which should help you work out what is going on and how to test the circuit. HTH

Hi mark,thanks for those words of wisdom,yes i have looked at autodata and a few others for info,im not after a silver bullet for this one,just a bit of info on the code,heard that these transits could go into limp mode when temp gets high?not sure if this is true,does the code mean it just gets shut off too early by something or losing the earth?regards lee

Yes these will go to limp mode if temp gets too high, had one myself a few years ago with a faulty ECT that went up to 135 degrees on scanner but engine was only at 90 ish degrees, the sensor can be awkward to get to as it is at back of head
