Year of Manufacture *: 2004 Engine Size and Code *: 1.9 TDI AVF ( Optional ) Scanner Used: vag-com and solous ( Optional) Fault Codes: P1557 turbo pressure exceeded
I am starting to get lots of vw and audis coming in with this problem. Fault code P1557 turbo pressure exceeded.we scanned car with vag-com and Solus. Ive replaced boost pressure sensor.and added fuel additive to help clean turbo vanes. Looses power when 3000 revs are reached. Switch engine off and restart and everythings ok again.checked readings for airmass and all seems good.i did fit a new air mass just to try but still no good. There must be a easy way of sorting this common fault? help and advice would be great.
Thanks

Hi Paul, Using Vagcom (VCDS) look at blocks 010 & 011 and log them whilst driving it, this will give you specified and actual pressure then compare. You can view them using vag scope or review the data using excel and view it as a graph (as in my pic)

Hi Paul, we have had many a VVT sticking and you are wasting your time changing parts as it is the variable Vane plate sticking in the turbo, causing over boost and the ECU going into temp limp home until restarted. The only cure is either a new turbo or as far as I know using RMC-3e cleaning fluid through the intake. This fluid is used for cleaning aircraft jet engines or gas turbines and is a compressible fluid, you administer it through the intake by squirting 15-20Ml with a sprayer can, I then usually put a bottle of fuel cleaner in the tank. In the 10 years I have been using the product have not had one fail yet. A couple of my regulars have the treatment every service as when quoted a price for a turbo don't want to go that route. We charge £25.00 a go plus a bottle of fuel cleaner a nice little earner as it is so simple to administer also cleaning the hot wire on the air mass meter at the same time.
The problem is that these people only sell the product in 20 liter containers min, I think about £450.00 + VAT. The first time I was introduced to the product when they sold me 5 Liters this lasted for 10 years and cost me then £90.00. The trouble is I now use the product much more frequently, the last time I contacted them for more they explained they only sell it in large amounts for industrial gas turbines or aircraft engines where money has no limits. However they did give me 5 liters FOC on the condition I recorded the results of before & after diesel readings as we also use it as a cleaner on MOT failures. After a long conversation with one of the directors they may sell the product to the likes of Wynns or Forte to market the product, so I am their Guinea pig on the product at the moment. I have included their web site link where you can read about the product. They are skeptical about the product in a combustion engine as it has to travel through the combustion process before hitting the turbo but the proof is that it works and talking to the employee I picked the product up from he uses it regularly in his own VW Passat mind you that was an 06 plate. Sorry about the long post but there never seems any simple solution to these problems, unless you want to fork out loads of money and market the product for yourself re-bottling it and starting up a new line.

Hi John
2001 Saab 93 TDI MIL on and in LOS refuses to rev above 3K and unable to remove codes, initially ? DTC's P0105/1105/0380. (switching ignition off and on did not erase codes) I have though been able to get to 5K by using a little trick I learnt on the Vitara.
Also partially un-stuck turbo by using throttle body cleaner thru breather pipe. Not a good idea due to detonation.
Is RMC-3e more suited to this purpose.

Hi Dave
Where have the two graph's gone I remember seeing Sticking turbo vanes against Turbo vanes freed off wave forms.
These helped me understand the problem of over-boost on VNT systems.

FIXED. Sorry for delay in responding. We have been trying a turbo cleaning kit called REVIVE and so far has been very successfull.also alot easier than the inotec kit we use to use.we are still in contact with the customer and he hasent had any further problems. Thanks for all the responses. paul
