VW Golf 1.9 ATD 2002 - Top end very noisy, oil light comes on - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 02 plate
Engine Size and Code *: atd 1.9

top end of engine very noisey, oil light comes on when revs pick up and warning says oil pressure, ive had sump off changed oil and filter cleaned out pick up (it was clean), and now fitted new oil pump its still the same any one got any ideas could it be a cam shaft problem ?

checked oil pressure at idle zero revving 10psi took cam cover off cannot see any excess wear on cam etc ?

Did you fit a genuine oil filter? Are all the seals in place? I've had issues recently with non genuine filters (Gutmann in particular) which are a loose fit and leave you with less than 1 bar of pressure at idle.

i fitted a bosch filter but i disconnected the injector plug so vehicle would not start and with filter removed and spinning over on key the filter housing had a job to fill up i dont know if there should be a long plastic peg with o rings on that should be attached to the plastic filter lid wich fits down inside the filter as some vehicles do i would just add this vehicle has been driven around like this for the last 2 months if not longer and its not siezed up it only came in because of warning light which has been on as long im a bit stumped

Paul,
Fitted new camshaft on 2003.Touran some time back,from memory,I think it was beside the front bearing cap I found a small alloy plug sitting on cylinder head when I removed cambox which seemed to have been pluging an oil gallery.There was no oil light complaints from customer,just noise from worn camshaft,could be losing oil pressure from this area,Maybe worth checking,Regards,Christy Doyle

ive just about given up on this one had sump off again checked main bearings no apparent wear checked oil pump chain and sprockets all ok took oil filter housing off and cleaned out checked oil pressure valve cant find nothing obvius will let you know if i get to bottom of it thanks

Check that none of the plugs at the end of the rocker shafts has come out, seen this before on a seat pd engine, also check that none of the hydraulic lifters have worn right through.

Yes there should be the long plastic peg in the filler cap on this one. Some of the VAG diesels use the 071 115 562 C filter which has the peg attached to the filter but yours uses the 074 115 562 filter which comes with a new seal for the filter cap and peg as the peg stays in the cap permanently. Sounds like someones done a filter change and pulled the peg out. You'll need to purchase a new cap.

FIX thanks to matt the filter cap should have had a long shaft going down through filter, the local vw dealer did email me a picture of the filter system ,but it did not show the shaft on the cap and then the customer tells me that its only had this problem after the last service which was done months ago, you live and learn thanks to every one for there help
