Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi 2001 - Lack of power when overtaking - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Code or CC *: 1800 tddi
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solus

Hopeing someone there may have seen this fault before, slight lack of power was customers description especially when overtaking, no codes present, have removed exhaust and checked waste gate is closed, no problems also visually checked cat, looks good, we have blocked off egr to eliminate it from our enquiries, we can watch air temp sensor 1 on solus and it seems to work accurately, and have tried swapping both these with others which made no improvement, if this car had a MAF unit, by its performance I would say that was faulty, this engine runs with a MAP sensor, which i,m not sure how to test yet, and it is £152 from ford, do they go wrong?
All turbo hoses appear good, also intercooler.
we have renewed fuel filter, checked air filter.

i had almost the same symptoms once,the clutch had been changed and the cps.was damaged,to big a
gap.

hi phil

had problems on transit with map sensor, have you tried it with exhaust loose. have had 2 with blocked rear silencers.

Tried what Richard suggested with cps all appeared fine but cleaned mounting block and surfaces
anyway , cps checks out with ohm's test.
Have run vehicle with whole exhaust off as a check for Cat problem, will try loosening it though as this may help with required back pressure for good turbo boost.
Had a look at thottle pedal unit this morning too, this works within set limits from autodata, what symptoms did you get with faulty map on transit John?, What age was the van?

Thanks John, worked quite late tonight, just got home! Unfortunately I didnt get much more done on the focus, I did try just loosening the exhaust, but it just seemed to sound as if it went better!
More noise, no more go!
Just before leaving work I also removed the turbo hose going to the manifold by the EGR valve, I know it all gets a bit grubby in there but I was interested to see a build up of crud in some places up to maybe 1cm thick, I wonder if this is really bad inside the manifold where you cant see, if its stopping the beast from breathing?

Well, inlet manifold extremly gooed up, but not the fault, when we took off the turbo we could have a good look at it, although the waste gate was operating it was tight just before the closed postion, a bit of gentle persuasion got the thing working fully, fitted all back together, what a difference!

only hope it doesn't sieze again!
