Fiat Ducato 2.3 2007 - Intermittant fuel pressure control #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007 Engine Code or CC *: 2.3 120 multijet ( Optional ) ECU Type: Bosch EDC16C39 CF4? ( Optional ) Scanner Used: SYKES ACR4 G2
This is the new shape 2007 onward, little short of data... Recovered to us as a non runner. Actually it would start and die after a couple of seconds. Sykes goes in on Bosch EDC16C39 CF4 but warns ISO codes do not match. Retrieved code 0090, fuel pressure regulator not responding. Live data backed this up, on starting pressure rapidly exceeded target. 1800 bar highest at idle before system shut down. Checked wiring to ECU thoroughly, OK. Fitted new pressure reg, all good.
Since repair at approximatly 500 mile intervals engine will gradually loose power and stop within a few seconds(drivers description). Cycling key will allow it run normally again for a similar distance. Code 0089 sets. Sometimes it will self clear, others it gets here first. Have removed washed & refitted regulator to no avail.
Normally I would just get another one, this is not easy as they are on extended back order. The first replacment came from a distant dealer who happened to have one in stock.
Does anyone have an accurate description for 0089? As this is a different code and problem from the first failure I suspect the regulator but need reliable info to condem it.

Hi Phill, P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance, if this was a Denso system I would say that the new IMV you fitted needs adapting, “Fuel Pump Learning Value clearing” without this the idle pressure will be height at 500 bar. But a Bosch CP1H system I would check the fuel feed and return. Can you scope the mass air flow sensor and the rail pressure sensor at 2/ms per div from cranking to idle full throttle back to idle to off, and post it? Regards, Martin.

Hi Martin, yes I can scope as you ask but dont have the software to post captures. Using Tech 31(Bosch PMS100). What am I looking for and will I see it bearing in mind the time/distance between symptoms?
Are you sure this is CP1H? I am more familiar with earlier Bosch systems that operate at lower pressures, typically 300bar at idle. This shows a target of approx 500bar at idle and achieves it.

This is what I would look for (blue rail pressure sensor) is notched at full throttle and notched when stabilizing idle presser(red MAF sensor) a classic DRV fault. Regards, Martin.
