VW Golf 1.9 TDi ARL 2002 - Engine rattle and knock - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Code or CC *: ARL
( Optional ) ECU Type: verus

vehicle came in with intermitant rattle from engine no codes stored, idles okay but has a booming noise from intake pipes, on increased revs we get a rattle and a heavy knock seems to be from top end, duel mass flywheel has been changed compessions all okay at 430psi smoke tested found okay
any ideas please

Hi Barry,

Remove the cam cover and you will probably find a badly worn cam lobe or two.

As Barry's said they are prone to wearing through the followers on this engine. Requires a new camshaft and followers. I own one and like many have suffered this

thanks for the help guys,removed cam box and as you said found camshaft lobes badly worn, orderd parts today will post fix later
