Vauxhall Zafira Y20DTH 2003 - Replacing diesel pump - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Code or CC *: 2.0 diesel
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Tech 2

Another garage we help out with some diagnostic work has fitted a new diesel pump to a Zafira Y20DTH and they've asked me to code in new pump.

I have Tech 2 and TIS disc all functioning but the problem is they haven't reset old pump which according to TIS needs to be done 1st.

Anyone give me a run down of what's involved or how to proceed as this is the 1st one i've done.

Hi Lee. I have done one of these. The Customer Had got the security codes for the Donor vehicle and the Recipient vehicle, I Didnt think that it would work due to having a mismatch of Parts but it allowed me to Reset the pump using the code off the donor vehicle/pump.

I then Reprogrammed it to the Recipient vehicle using its own security code.

It Took in total about 10 minutes and then another 2 hours trying to get it started and clearing codes as the garage had left pipes and wires disconnected all over the place.

Try to get the details of the vehicle that the pump came off, otherwise i think your going to struggle. ( other way might be to read the chassis no out of the ecu and apply for the immo code for that vehicle. )

Lee ive recently fitted a new [bosch exchange] pump to an Omega B which was a rotary vp [single plug ecu] Y22DTH , this didnt need any programming at all

This is a 2 plug pump and is brand new. Garage have cleaned out all fuel lines, removed fuel tank and replaced fuel filter so hopefully its just a matter of coding in new pump.

Help with how its done would be nice.

Hi Lee. I Missed the bit about the pump being "NEW". (sorry )

It Shouldnt be a major problem programming the new pump. I wouldnt worry too much about the old pump being reset. ( I did read it on here that it sets the Can network up ready for programming, But I cant see it being that important, Otherwise if an Ecu was Dead and you couldn't communicate with it, How would you carry on then. ??? And I Usually Fit and program the new parts first to make sure that I have cured the problem before I reset the old unit. ( I think the main reason for resetting is for warranty and exchange units so that they can be tested and repaired etc. )

Anyway. You are Basically Programming an Engine Ecu as its all combined, So go through the SPS procedure for programmming new engine ecu and then program immobilser functions and output and hi speed and low speed can.

Sorry I cant be more specific but I have a terible memory, But If I can do it then anyone can. ( some programming will be done in Engine ecu and others in immobiliser or CIM module if it has one )

Its the earlier model Zafira (Astra G based) so shouldn't have a CIM unit i don't think. Is the CAN configuration setup automatically by tech 2/SPS as i now have n chance of reading original CAN settings.

i wouldnt think its set up automatically, It usually asks if its got ABS, ESP, Cruise, etc etc, Nothing really to worry about on Vauxhalls though as if you get it wrong, You can always reconfigure, and if you get something wrong, you will normally get a fault code for it.

Attempted to replace/recode new pump module but i keep getting failed.

these messages are displayed on screen (tech 2)

There are two ways to do the SPS programming Lee,
1 Pass thru using the Tech 2 as an interface
2 'Suck and blow' loading the software onto the Tech 2 and then into the PSG16 pump

Which method are you using? Try the other method and see what happens.

Had a result with this so its now up and running although it has a massive diesel leak which is why it took me ages to bleed it and have it running.

The problem was or seemed to be that i was using a Remote programming method as instructed because its more reliable but i was then told to give Pass Thru programming a try. This took about 25-30 mins to complete but it worked and all data was then programmed and live data etc was available.

After this i had to enter into immobiliser, installed new engine ecu and exit.

Final procedure was to programme CAN & Variant coding.
