Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD Excessive diesel knock cured but cant find diagnostic socket - Fixed #

Engine Code or CC *: 8140.43s

We've had the above Fiat Camper in for a while now.

It came in with a very bad diesel knock and excessive black smoke.

We had the injectors tested and report came back as faulty so have replaced all injectors.

Its running lovely now but we cant find the diagnostic socket. We've spent hours looking.
We did find a 3 pin connector just inside the bonnet on the nearside front behind headlamp area. This got us into ABS but not engine.

This photo is of the plug we got into ABS on. Is this the one for engine or is there another one somewhere.

Can anyone help.

If my memory serves me correctly (which it doesn't very often!) isn't it just below the steering wheel behind a plastic cover?

I had a quick word with the mechanic who is doing it and he says he knows the plug your talking about but this is the earlyer model.

Hi Peter,

According to my info it is a 3 pin item and looks as though it is dangling by the ECM.

That looks like the early three pin Fiat connetor.

What kit are you using?

Dec comes with that plug.

We are using Bosch KTS 520 machine.

Weve still got this one.
Searched high and low.
Still cant find plug.

in my opinion there is only this plug. And it will do edc as well. I remember long time ago we had a ducato 2004 and I bought that cable specially for tis van.(Important customer)

We spent ages trying to connect our KTS diagnostic machine to a 2002 Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD. The information on the KTS said to connect to a 3 pin plug near the front left hand corner of the vehicle.

We found two 3 pin plugs behind the headlamp area on the left hand inner wing near the engine ECU.

One had 3 connectors in it. This turned out to be the ABS connector.

The other had 2 connectors in it this turned out to be the engine ECU connector.

Centre wire was black and left hand wire was white and red. The white and red wire had 5V when ignition on and no load.

The black wire had 0V

To connect it we had to do the following.

Connect live and earth from the battery and connect to the Red and Black of Bosch KTS multipurpose lead.

Connect the Green K line lead of KTS multipurpose lead to the left hand pin of the ECU connector White and Red wire.

Connect nothing to the centre connector Black wire.
