VW Golf 1.9D 2000 - Dash fault #

Year of Manufacture *: v reg 2000
Engine Code or CC *: 1.9 diesil
( Optional ) Scanner Used: dec

Have this golf where the battery light does not work if i go into the dash with dec i can get it to switch on the dash warning lights all work but the battery light had alternator checked and that works fine. Can i fit a second hand dash and reprogram it for diesel [the one i can get is petrol]. ray

Not sure if you can swop petrol & diesel dashes.
You would of course need immo codes for both even if you could.
Have you checked wiring from alternator to dash, its not uncommon for a broken wire.
There is a few places that can repair dash pods relativly cheaply but obviously vehicle wont run whilst it being done.

I have some brand new clusters in the garage. The immobiliser automatically recognises the first key when virginal. Get me the correct numbers and I can check them against what I have.

I do have a piece of kit that will reterive the key codes I have checked the wires from the alternator and that end looks ok is there any bad areas where the wires may break. ray

Wire normally breaks around starter / gearbox area.

If the wiring is ok and you know its a dash fault, ( And the Customer isn't too fussy ) Why not fit a seperate Durite warning light, If you have checked the wires as far as the dash, it will only take you a a few minutes to wire in a seperate W/L .

and pretend its a real 1970's car with proper warning lights.

Hang on a second Ray. In your original post you say you used your dec to check the dash lights and they all worked except the alternator. If thats the case then there is a problem in the cluster.

You then say you have checked the alternater and the wires from that end, and ask if there are any areas where the wires may break?????? Why are you now looking at the wiring? Have you searched the archives at all?

well it all started with me just to fit a second dash its a old car and new ones being so expensive i can get a dash from the local scrap yard but its a petrol car but i thought the dash was the same and you just promgam it for either petrol or diesel but nothing is that simple.ray

Not sure if I'm right but I thought that the alternator lamp on these was direct driven from the alternator circuit and therefore would not come on when performing a lamp test under diagnostics. Wish I'd read this earlier, I had one of these in today

, sorry.
I would check the warning light wiring in the convoluted sleeving coming aeay from the alternator.
