Vehicle has covered 174k and i was using the Delphi DS100,having done further investigation work today it appears the vehicle has just had a new oil pump,i have since been told that when the oil pump fails on this engine it causes the timing to jump, this in turn causes valve to piston contact in some cases, but as the cam lobes are pressed on to the shaft the lobes turn when out of sync!,only visable by removing the rocker cover,as you can still time up at the belt end without any evidence of the fault! I will try and confirm this on Monday.
