John If it is the electronic switch that's faulty then its going to be new only and will need to go to merc , unless you are able to source the parts and SCN coding data etc...... But if I remember correct the crank signal is sent via "CAN Bus" to the Engine ECU and then onto the front SAM unit and then onto the starter motor solenoid. You really need to confirm the starter signal in present in the CDI unit first. It more likely to be a wiring or front SAM issue for the starter not working. If you are happy the above as been confirm all OK then please ignore my comments. Finally the words cheap repairs and Mercedes do not mix , there is no cheap repairs on Merc's.
