Hi Tony, If you understand what Hex is. then you can work it out the hard way without a calculator. or you could use a scientific calc as Alan suggests. Hex is short for hexadecimal. We are all used to counting in decimal ie using a structure of one to nine before using a one and zero for ten. this can also be called base 10. Another one is Binary or base 2 where 2 is one zero or 10 so to count in binary you would have the following sequence: 1,10,11,100,101,111,1000 1=1,10=2,11=3,100=4 etc Hexadecimal is six and ten or base 16 Wth hex we do not stop at 9 we carry on until we get to 15 but after 9 we substitute letters to represent values between 9 & 10. in hex one zero is not a decimal ten but is actually equal to sixteen in decimal. So counting to 16 in Hex would involve the following sequence... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F,10 A=10,B=11,C=12,D=13,E=14,F=15,10=16, therefore 11=17 and so on. Putting this into practice with your code, 00C8 The 8 is units so that is easy but in the 10s column it isnt actaully tens its sixteens and refering back to what I said earlier, C=12 so (12x16)+8= 192+8 = 200. Hope this helps although I may just have managed to confuse you even more. Mike
