Got this one in last week with the intercooler pipe seperated in the bottom of the engine bay. The customer said he heard a 'pop' when pulling away from a fuel station and a loss of power.
The retaining lugs on the pipe seemed to be damaged. I have re-connected the pipe and reinforced the retaining ring (wonderful things, tie wraps!) so it is now secure but the customer says he has noticed an excessive amount of black smoke and a noise when the turbo comes in that he wasn't aware of before.
Is there something that can suddenly cause enough excessive boost pressure to blow the pipes off? If so, is the black smoke connected?
Got the vehicle in for a timing belt at the moment.
    Any input gratefully recieved.
    Cheers - Paul.
