The vehicle originally came in with battery drain issues. The only problem I found was the glowplugs were remaining on.
I checked and found that the glowplug controller (electronic on this) was driving the plugs regardless of any control signal. I fitted a new controller checked the plugs were being commanded correctly and sent it back out. The vehicle is a camper and not frequently used. After a couple of months he came back to me to say it was doing the same thing. Sure enough the glowplugs were staying on. It is entirely possible the replacement has failed naturally but I am now concerned that there is a problem with the vehicle that is damaging the controller. The initial glowplug current is about 76A tailing off to around 30A when the plugs are hot. The post-start glow time is around 3 minutes. I have not had any luck finding wiring diagrams for this old girl either.
Comms is a bit scratchy and the old ACR4 is the only thing I have that talks to it. A full list of codes read is this:-
02 TPS
03 VSS
05 pump advance actuator
06 Preheater
08 Battery or power supply
10 IAT
18 Load adaption circuit
The only code to return is 18.
And on top of that it belongs to a friend so it's probably a Pro Bono job too!
Any opinions guys?
