Towed car in sat am, broken down 50yds from garage.
Tried to restart ran for 5 seconds died.
Initial checks showed no fuel in filter.
I have been trying to find power to intank pump as knowone seems clear if one is fitted to this model or not!!gaining access didnt help as the sender is not removable without removing tank (access hole to small(well done ford)
Any way after much testing of lines, conectors etc I bled the system manually. engine starts, runs for 1-2 mins then dies, again filter empty. Repeated many times with same result.
Eventually after much head scratching I replaced with clear hoses feed from filter to HP pump and return HP pump to tank return and blanked of 3rd port (air bleed) on filter.
Bled system,
Now car runs fine.
However the HP pump return pipe is awash with foam and air bubbles and if pinched pressurizes immediately
Therefore my assumption is that the HP pump is producing back pressure and flooding the filter with air.
My question is would I be correct in assuming this is how these pumps fail.
I have known of many HP pumps failing and being changed but not seen this type of failure before.
Just concerned because the price to replace is more than the car is worth and I would hate to change it and find out it was just a £40 part or something daft.
If anyone can shed a little more light on the situation it would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Tim
