I remember reading that it is possible to run into turbo overheating issues on some modern vehicles if the EGR is disabled (Also, many modern systems can tell via MAF sensor interpretation even if there is no sensor on the egr itself)

Would permanently blanking the EGR on an old Mondeo present problems or is it "safe"?
